Abstract

The drying process is a crucial stage in post-harvest tobacco processing as it directly affects the final quality of the product. Traditional drying methods such as sun-curing, fire-curing, and flue-curing still present various challenges, including dependence on weather conditions and the absence of real-time process parameter monitoring. This study designs and develops a monitoring system to observe temperature, energy consumption, and moisture content during the drying process of tobacco leaves using the microwave method. The system employs an RTD PT100 sensor to measure temperature, a PZEM-016 sensor to measure energy consumption, and a load cell to measure the weight of the tobacco before and after drying, which is then converted into moisture content. All data are collected using an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller and displayed through a LabVIEW interface. With this system, the tobacco drying process can be monitored more effectively and is no longer dependent on weather conditions.
