Abstract
Kegiatan magang dilaksanakan di PT Energi Agro Nusantara, Mojokerto, pada Production Department yang memproduksi bioetanol berbahan baku molases melalui proses fermentasi dan refinery. Tujuan magang adalah memahami penerapan proses industri kimia secara langsung, menganalisis proses produksi bioetanol, menyusun Process Flow Diagram (PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID), neraca massa dan neraca energi, mengidentifikasi potensi bahaya menggunakan metode Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), serta melakukan analisis terhadap permasalahan operasional yang terjadi di pabrik. Selama kegiatan magang dilakukan pengamatan terhadap seluruh tahapan proses produksi mulai dari persiapan bahan baku, fermentasi, evaporasi, distilasi, dehidrasi, hingga redistilasi serta sistem utilitas dan pengolahan limbah. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa proses produksi bioetanol di PT Energi Agro Nusantara telah menerapkan pengendalian mutu, sistem keselamatan kerja, serta pengelolaan lingkungan yang terintegrasi sesuai prinsip teknik kimia dan konsep industri berkelanjutan. Analisis HAZOP berhasil mengidentifikasi potensi bahaya pada beberapa peralatan proses beserta rekomendasi pengendaliannya. Selain itu, dilakukan penyusunan neraca massa dan neraca energi sebagai evaluasi kesetimbangan proses pada unit fermentasi. Permasalahan operasional yang dianalisis berkaitan dengan pengaruh variasi kadar metana (CH₄) pada biogas terhadap nilai kalor pembakaran dan efisiensi boiler. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, peningkatan kadar CH₄ meningkatkan nilai kalor biogas sehingga efisiensi boiler juga meningkat. Oleh karena itu, diusulkan upaya peningkatan kualitas biogas melalui optimasi proses pada unit digester dan pengendalian parameter operasi untuk mendukung efisiensi energi serta keberlanjutan proses produksi bioetanol.

The internship was conducted at PT Energi Agro Nusantara, Mojokerto, in the Production Department, which produces bioethanol from molasses through fermentation and refinery processes. The internship aimed to gain practical understanding of industrial chemical engineering applications, analyze the bioethanol production process, develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), perform mass and energy balance calculations, identify potential hazards using the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) method, and investigate operational issues encountered in the plant. During the internship, observations were carried out throughout the production process, including raw material preparation, fermentation, evaporation, distillation, dehydration, redistillation, as well as utility and wastewater treatment systems. The results indicate that PT Energi Agro Nusantara has implemented comprehensive quality control, occupational safety, and environmental management systems in accordance with chemical engineering principles and sustainable industrial practices. The HAZOP analysis successfully identified potential hazards in several major process units and proposed appropriate mitigation measures. In addition, mass and energy balances were established to evaluate process performance in the fermentation unit. The operational study focused on the effect of methane (CH₄) concentration in biogas on combustion heating value and boiler efficiency. The analysis demonstrated that increasing CH₄ concentration enhances the heating value of biogas, resulting in improved boiler efficiency. Therefore, optimization of the digester process and operational parameter control are proposed to improve biogas quality, increase energy efficiency, and support the sustainability of bioethanol production.
