Abstract
Penggunaan EPS Geofoam tipe EPS15 mampu meningkatkan faktor keamanan menjadi 6,63 sehingga efektif meningkatkan stabilitas timbunan.

The Probolinggo–Banyuwangi Toll Road is part of infrastructure development in Java aimed at improving regional connectivity. Cracks and structural displacement were identified at the Bokong Semar embankment of the Afvour Safila Bridge at STA 43+725, indicating embankment instability. This study aims to evaluate the existing embankment condition and assess the effectiveness of improvement alternatives using Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Geofoam and retaining structures, including retaining walls, gabions, and precast concrete sheet piles, based on technical performance. The analysis was conducted using site investigation data, geotechnical calculations, and the GEO5 software to evaluate slope stability, overturning stability, sliding stability, bearing capacity, and global stability. The results indicate that the existing embankment experienced internal instability with a factor of safety of 0.58, while the external stability factor of safety of 1.42 still satisfied the required criterion. The use of EPS15 Geofoam increased the factor of safety to 6.63, demonstrating its effectiveness in improving embankment stability. All retaining structure alternatives satisfied the technical requirements according to their respective functions and failure mechanisms. Among these alternatives, the gabions exhibited the most comprehensive performance by satisfying all stability requirements, including global stability, overturning, sliding, and bearing capacity, in accordance with SNI 8460:2017. Therefore, the retaining wall is recommended as the most effective technical alternative for improving the Bokong Semar embankment.
