Abstract
Museum saat ini mengalami pergeseran dari pendekatan konvensional menuju interactive-based experience, seiring dengan perubahan cara generasi muda dalam menerima dan mengolah informasi. Penelitian ini berangkat dari keterbatasan media berbasis teks yang belum mampu memenuhi kebutuhan pengunjung terhadap pengalaman belajar yang cepat dan menarik, sebagaimana didukung oleh survei ICOM-AVICOM terhadap 173 museum. Temuan dari Shanghai Museum of Natural History menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan interaktif dapat meningkatkan efektivitas penerimaan informasi sebesar 12,7%. Hasil observasi di Museum Musik Dunia Jawa Timur Park menunjukkan bahwa penyampaian informasi masih berfokus pada play-based engagement yang bersifat dangkal dan mengandalkan artefak asli untuk dimainkan. Sementara itu, daya tarik pengunjung untuk membaca informasi kian menurun, disebabkan oleh media informasi berbasis teks yang monoton. Berdasarkan in-depth interview dengan pengunjung Museum Musik Dunia, media informasi yang hanya mengandalkan teks nyatanya mengurangi retention time pengunjung dalam melihat dan mengamati alat musik. Apa yang disukai pengunjung hanyalah saat mereka dapat memainkan dan mendengar suara alat musik tersebut secara langsung. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut, dirumuskan lima kriteria utama dalam perancangan ini, yaitu fun, intuitif, informatif, interactive learning, dan durable. Perancangan ini menghasilkan sebuah instalasi interaktif yang memperkenalkan alat musik tradisional Jepang, Taiko. Instalasi ini mengadopsi teknologi RFID object recognition untuk pemilihan kontennya. Instalasi ini memungkinkan pengunjung memahami konteks penggunaan Taiko melalui simulasi permainan yang disediakan sesuai jenis Taiko yang dipilih. Adanya interaktivitas ini diharapkan dapat menggabungkan aspek visual, audio, dan taktil, serta mendukung pembelajaran kontekstual yang lebih efektif, bermakna, dan mudah diingat bagi pengunjung museum.

Museums are increasingly shifting from conventional exhibition approaches toward interactive experience-based learning, reflecting the way younger generations now consume and process information. This study was motivated by the limitations of text-based information media, which often fail to provide the engaging and efficient learning experiences expected by today's visitors, a problem supported by an ICOM-AVICOM survey involving 173 museums. In addition, the Shanghai Museum of Natural History showed that interactive exhibits can improve information reception by 12.7%. Observations at Museum Musik Dunia Jawa Timur Park found that the current exhibition mainly focuses on play-based engagement, with educational content remaining relatively superficial and dependent on visitors playing the original musical instruments. At the same time, visitors are becoming less interested in reading exhibit descriptions because the text-heavy displays are too monotonous. In-depth interviews with museum visitors also revealed that relying solely on text reduces the amount of time visitors spend observing and understanding the instruments; instead, visitors found the experience most enjoyable when they could directly play the instruments and hear their sounds. Based on these findings, five design criteria were established: fun, intuitive, informative, interactive learning, and durable. The outcome is an interactive installation introducing the traditional Japanese drum, Taiko. The installation uses RFID-based object recognition technology to allow visitors to select different Taiko types and access the corresponding content. Visitors can explore the context in which Taiko is used while experiencing its distinctive sound and playing style. By combining visual, auditory, and tactile interactions, the installation is expected to provide a more effective, meaningful, and memorable contextual learning experience for museum visitors.
