Abstract

Pabrik bioetanol ini dirancang untuk memanfaatkan limbah tamte (Non-Centrifugal Sugar Waste), yaitu limbah cair yang dihasilkan dari proses pengolahan gula merah dan masih mengandung sukrosa, glukosa, serta fruktosa dalam jumlah cukup tinggi. Kandungan gula tersebut menjadikan tamte berpotensi sebagai bahan baku fermentasi untuk produksi bioetanol sekaligus sebagai upaya pemanfaatan limbah industri gula menjadi produk bernilai tambah dan ramah lingkungan. Proses produksi bioetanol pada pabrik ini meliputi tahap persiapan bahan baku, hidrolisis enzimatis, fermentasi, serta pemurnian produk. Hidrolisis dilakukan menggunakan enzim invertase untuk mengonversi sukrosa menjadi glukosa dan fruktosa, yang selanjutnya difermentasi menggunakan Saccharomyces cerevisiae pada kondisi operasi optimum. Hasil fermentasi dengan kadar etanol sekitar 8–12% kemudian dimurnikan melalui proses distilasi hingga mencapai kemurnian azeotropik sebesar 95,6%. Untuk memenuhi spesifikasi bioetanol fuel grade, dilakukan tahap dehidrasi lanjutan menggunakan molecular sieve sehingga diperoleh kemurnian etanol sebesar 99,6%. Pabrik dirancang beroperasi secara semi-batch dengan waktu operasi 24 jam per hari dan 330 hari kerja per tahun, serta memiliki kapasitas produksi sebesar 1.154,83 kL per tahun. Lokasi pendirian pabrik direncanakan di Kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ekonomi, diperoleh nilai Internal Rate of Return (IRR) sebesar 20,30% yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan suku bunga pinjaman bank dan nilai Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC). Nilai Net Present Value (NPV) bernilai positif sebesar Rp16.730.994.001, dengan waktu pengembalian modal (Pay Out Time) selama 5,442 tahun. Berdasarkan analisis teknis dan ekonomi tersebut, pabrik bioetanol berbahan baku limbah tamte dinyatakan layak untuk didirikan.

This bioethanol plant is designed to utilize tamte waste (Non-Centrifugal Sugar Waste), which is a liquid by-product generated from brown sugar processing and still contains significant amounts of sucrose, glucose, and fructose. The high sugar content makes tamte a promising fermentation substrate for bioethanol production, while simultaneously providing an environmentally friendly approach to valorizing sugar industry waste into a value-added product. The bioethanol production process consists of raw material preparation, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation, and product purification. Enzymatic hydrolysis is carried out using invertase to convert sucrose into glucose and fructose, which are subsequently fermented using Saccharomyces cerevisiae under optimal operating conditions. The fermentation broth, containing approximately 8–12% ethanol, is then purified through distillation to achieve the azeotropic ethanol purity of 95.6%. To meet fuel-grade bioethanol specifications, a further dehydration step is applied using a molecular sieve, resulting in an ethanol purity of 99.6%. The plant is designed to operate in a semi-batch mode for 24 hours per day and 330 operating days per year, with a production capacity of 1.154,83 kL per year. The proposed plant location is Kediri Regency, East Java. Economic analysis indicates an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 20,30%, which exceeds both the bank interest rate and the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC). The Net Present Value (NPV) is positive at Rp16.730.994.001, with a Pay Out Time of 5,442 years. Based on the technical and economic evaluations, the bioethanol plant utilizing tamte waste is considered feasible for implementation.
