Abstract

Bird strike masih menjadi salah satu permasalahan keselamatan penerbangan di Bandara Internasional Juanda akibat keberadaan burung air. Ketersediaan sumber pakan pada area airside memengaruhi keberadaan dan aktivitas burung air, sehingga Bandara Internasional Juanda membangun artificial wetland sebagai upaya mitigasi. Namun, efektivitas kawasan tersebut sebagai habitat alternatif bagi burung air masih perlu dievaluasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan keanekaragaman sumber pakan burung air pada area airside (AS) dan artificial wetland (AW) di Bandara Internasional Juanda. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada Januari–Maret 2026 dengan frekuensi pengambilan dua kali setiap bulan pada tiga titik pengamatan di masing-masing area. Jenis pakan yang dianalisis meliputi vertebrata dan invertebrata. Pada area AS ditemukan 1.082 individu dari 18 spesies vertebrata dan 3.929 individu dari 55 spesies invertebrata, sedangkan pada area AW ditemukan 443 individu dari 13 spesies vertebrata dan 1.673 individu dari 34 spesies invertebrata. Nilai rata-rata indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener tergolong sedang pada kelompok vertebrata ($\text{AS} = 2,57$; $\text{AW} = 2,31$) dan tinggi pada kelompok invertebrata ($\text{AS} = 3,83$; $\text{AW} = 3,35$). Area AS memiliki kekayaan spesies, kelimpahan individu, dan keanekaragaman sumber pakan yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan area AW. Analisis Morisita-Horn menunjukkan tingkat kesamaan komunitas yang tinggi antara kedua area ($\text{CMH} > 0,6$), dengan kesamaan tertinggi antar area ditemukan pada AS2 dan AW3 ($0,848$) dan terendah pada AS3 dan AW2 ($0,699$). Analisis Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) menunjukkan bahwa komunitas burung air pada area AS memiliki keterkaitan yang lebih kuat dengan ketersediaan sumber pakan dibandingkan area AW. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas artificial wetland sebagai habitat alternatif bagi burung air di Bandara Internasional Juanda masih perlu ditingkatkan.

Bird strike remains one of the aviation safety concerns at Juanda International Airport due to the presence of waterbirds. The availability of food resources within the airside area influences the occurrence and activity of waterbirds; therefore, Juanda International Airport has established an artificial wetland as a bird strike mitigation measure. However, its effectiveness as an alternative waterbird habitat remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the diversity of waterbird food resources between the airside (AS) and artificial wetland (AW) areas at Juanda International Airport. Sampling was conducted from January to March 2026, twice monthly, at three observation points in each area. The food resources analyzed consisted of vertebrates and invertebrates. A total of 1,082 individuals representing 18 vertebrate species and 3,929 individuals representing 55 invertebrate species were recorded in the AS area, whereas the AW area contained 443 individuals from 13 vertebrate species and 1,673 individuals from 34 invertebrate species. The mean Shannon–Wiener diversity index indicated moderate diversity for vertebrates (AS=2.57; AW=2.31) and high diversity for invertebrates (AS=3.83; AW=3.35). The AS area exhibited greater species richness, individual abundance, and food resource diversity than the AW area. Morisita–Horn analysis revealed a high level of community similarity between the two areas (CMH>0.6), with the highest similarity observed between AS2 and AW3 (0.848) and the lowest between AS3 and AW2 (0.699). Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) demonstrated that the waterbird community in the AS area was more strongly associated with food resource availability than that in the AW area. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of the artificial wetland as an alternative habitat for waterbirds at Juanda International Airport still requires improvement.
