Abstract

Demand for composite denture bases in Indonesia continues to increase in line with rising dental and oral health problems in the country. In 2024, Indonesia imported 16,022.31 tons of acrylic polymer to meet domestic demand for denture base materials. This situation has created an opportunity to establish a local composite denture base factory to reduce dependence on imports and support domestic industry growth. The location of the factory was determined through an analysis of various factors, with Cikarang District being selected as the most strategic location. This factory will use the suspension polymerization method, in which Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) monomer is mixed with Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) initiator in an aqueous medium with Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) stabilizer. The polymerization process will take place in a Batch Reactor at a temperature of 86°C. This method was chosen because it allows for good control of temperature and viscosity, and is capable of producing PMMA with high molecular weight and optimal monomer conversion rates. Next, PMMA will be added with silanized hydroxyapatite filler and MCC fiber in order to produce a denture base that is similar to natural gums. The purpose of this factory is to produce composite denture bases that are biocompatible and have strong durability and flexibility to meet the demand for denture bases in Indonesia. To achieve this, a series of washing, drying, and particle classification processes are carried out to ensure that the final product meets strict industry standards. With an efficient process design, it is hoped that this factory will be able to compete in the domestic and international markets, as well as meet the needs of an ever-growing industry.
