Abstract

Indonesia is located in a region of high seismic activity; therefore, seismic performance is a critical consideration in the design of building structures. This study was conducted on a 12 story reinforced concrete office building in Jakarta, which was originally designed using a conventional dual structural system consisting of a Special Moment Resisting Frame (SMRF) and shear walls. The objective of this study is to compare the seismic performance of the existing structure and to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing Fluid Viscous Dampers (FVDs) by modifying the structural system into a Special Moment Resisting Frame (SMRF) equipped with FVDs. Structural analysis was performed using a three-dimensional numerical model developed in structural analysis software. Seismic loading was applied in accordance with SNI 1726:2019 using the Response Spectrum Analysis and Linear Time History Analysis methods. The seismic performance of the structure was evaluated based on the fundamental period (T), interstory drift (Δ), and base shear (V) before and after the installation of the FVDs.
