Abstract

the The palm oil industry is one of the national strategic sectors with significant downstream potential, particularly in processing palm kernel into Palm Kernel Oil (PKO). This study aims to design a PKO plant with a capacity of 375,000 tons per year to meet the increasing demand in both domestic and global markets, especially in the food and oleochemical sectors. The design method employed combines mechanical extraction (pre-pressing) and chemical extraction (solvent extraction) using n-hexane as the solvent. This approach is selected to optimize oil yield while reducing the residual oil content in the meal to below 1%. The process results in pure PKO, while the solvent can be recovered and reused through a recycling system. Based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis, the plant location is selected in Riau Province. This decision is supported by several strategic advantages, including abundant availability of palm kernel raw materials, supporting export port infrastructure in Kampar, and a relatively stable electricity supply. From a technical perspective, the plant is designed to operate continuously with a processing capacity of 37,500 tons per year. This design is expected to contribute significantly to increasing the added value of palm oil derivatives in Indonesia and to serve as a technical reference for the development of large-scale palm kernel processing industries in the future.
