Abstract

This study aims to compare the structural performance of steel buildings with Inverted V and X bracing configurations under earthquake loading using response spectrum analysis in ETABS based on SNI 1726:2019, SNI 1727:2020, and SNI 1729:2020. The evaluated parameters include structural weight, mass participation, natural period, seismic base shear, dual system performance, and inter-story drift. The results show that both models have nearly identical structural weights with a difference of only 0.01% and satisfy the requirements for mass participation and the dual system. Compared with the X configuration, the Inverted V configuration produces a shorter natural period by 13.69% in the X direction and 11.39% in the Y direction, resulting in increases in seismic base shear of 11.38% and 13.67%, respectively. Nevertheless, the inter-story drift is reduced by 11.02% in the X direction and 16.56% in the Y direction. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that, under the modeling conditions considered, the Inverted V bracing configuration provides better structural performance than the X bracing configuration due to its higher lateral stiffness, resulting in reduced inter-story drift under earthquake loading.
