Abstract

Economic growth is a key indicator of national development, while Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is recognized as one of the major sources of investment that contributes to economic growth. This study aims to analyze the impact of sectoral FDI on Indonesia’s economic growth and to formulate an investment allocation strategy based on the relative contribution of each sector. The study employs the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method using annual data from 2010–2024. To improve statistical feasibility and model interpretability, economic sectors are grouped into three categories: primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors. The results indicate that FDI in the secondary sector has a positive and significant effect on economic growth, with the largest relative contribution of 52.65%, followed by the tertiary sector at 36.97%, while the primary sector shows no significant effect and contributes only 10.38%. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of FDI in promoting economic growth largely depends on the characteristics of the recipient sector. Based on the results, the proposed FDI allocation strategy prioritizes the secondary sector through productivity enhancement, industrial upgrading, technology transfer, and domestic supply chain development; the tertiary sector through the expansion of productive services, logistics improvement, and digital transformation; and the primary sector through downstream industrialization, integration with manufacturing industries, technology adoption, and value-added product diversification. This study implies that investment policies should not merely focus on increasing FDI inflows, but also on enhancing the ability of each sector to transform investment into productivity gains, value creation, and sustainable economic growth.
