Abstract

Changes in urban lifestyles and the Work From Anywhere (WFA) trend have driven the need for furniture that is functional, efficient, and capable of supporting various activities within a single space. Cafes and public areas today not only serve as leisure spots but also as workspaces that demand ergonomic and adaptive furniture design. Indonesia possesses great potential in bamboo resources with more than 176 species; however, its utilization in the furniture industry remains limited. Through this design project, exposed bamboo is applied as the main material in furniture design with a nesting concept that facilitates arrangement, storage, and delivery. The design process was carried out using a qualitative approach, including observation, interviews, and questionnaires involving craftsmen, cafe managers, and WFA practitioners. The design outcome consists of a bamboo table and chair featuring honest structural expression that highlights the authenticity of the material and the efficiency of form. This product is expected to provide a functional, aesthetic, and sustainable furniture solution while reinforcing the role of bamboo as a local design material adaptive to the evolving modern work lifestyle.
