Abstract
Peningkatan kebutuhan energi dan keterbatasan bahan bakar fosil mendorong pengembangan energi terbarukan, salah satunya biodiesel. Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan biodiesel berbasis Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO).

The increasing demand for energy and the limited availability of fossil fuels have encouraged the development of renewable energy sources, one of which is biodiesel. Indonesia has significant potential for biodiesel production due to the abundant availability of Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO). This undergraduate thesis focuses on the design of a biodiesel production plant using RBDPO as the feedstock with a production capacity of 100,000 tons per year, located in the Dumai Industrial Area, Riau, employing an interesterification process with methyl acetate. The reaction is carried out at a temperature of 55°C, atmospheric pressure, and a reaction time of 60 minutes, using a heterogeneous calcium oxide (CaO) catalyst at 1 wt% of oil, resulting in a biodiesel yield of up to 98% and a value-added by-product in the form of triacetin. The purification stage includes catalyst separation using a filter press, phase separation with a decanter, removal of water and volatile components through a vacuum evaporator, and product cooling prior to storage. Mass and energy balances are performed for each unit operation to ensure process feasibility. The design results indicate that the produced biodiesel meets the quality standards of SNI 7182:2015, ASTM D6751, and EN 14214. This biodiesel plant is expected to support renewable energy development, enhance the value of RBDPO, and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.
