Abstract
Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) secara luas digunakan dalam industry power plant dan aviasi. TBC terdiri dari lapisan top coat dan bond coat. Lapisan top coat berfungsi sebagai pelapis penghalang panas dan lapisan bond coat bertindak sebagai lapisan perekat antara top coat dan substrat. TBC memiliki masa pakai atau Equivalent Operating Hours (EOH), sehingga diperlukan proses recoating ketika melebihi umur pakai. Proses stripping merupakan satu tahapan yang penting untuk menghilangkan lapisan coating dan preparasi permukaan sebelum memulai tahapan recoating. Penelitian ini berfokus untuk mengetahui metode stripping lapisan bond coat yang baik dengan menjamin lapisan coating dapat terlepas secara sempurna , kondisi base metal tidak mengalami degradasi, dan tidak terdapat perubahan struktur mikro. Tiga metode stripping yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini yaitu dengan grit blasting, chemical cleaning menggunakan asam klorida (HCl) dengan 2 jenis konsentrasi (6 M dan 12 M), dan asam metanoat (HCOOH) dengan 2 jenis konsentrasi (6 M dan 12 M). Hasil penelitian menunjukan metode stripping dengan HCl 6M dianggap memiliki kemampuan untuk menghilangkan seluaruh lapisan bond coating dan interdiffusion zone, serta tidak merubah struktur mikro permukaan base metal. Hal ini merupakan kondisi ideal untuk proses re-coating TBC pada Inconel 939.

Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) are widely utilized in the power generation and aviation industries. A TBC system comprises a top coat and a bond coat. The top coat functions as a thermal insulating barrier, while the bond coat serves as an adhesion layer between the top coat and the underlying substrate. TBC systems have a finite service life quantified by Equivalent Operating Hours (EOH), necessitating a recoating process once their operational lifespan is exceeded. The stripping process is a critical stage designed to completely remove the existing coating layers and prepare the substrate surface prior to the recoating phase. This study focuses on identifying an optimal bond coat stripping method that guarantees the complete removal of the coating layers, prevents degradation of the base metal, and induces no microstructural alterations. Three stripping methods were evaluated in this research: grit blasting, chemical cleaning using hydrochloric acid (HCl) at two concentrations (6 M and 12 M), and methanoic acid (HCOOH) at two concentrations (6 M and 12 M). The results demonstrate that chemical stripping with 6 M HCl effectively removes the entire bond coat and the interdiffusion zone (IDZ) without altering the surface microstructure of the base metal. Consequently, this method represents the ideal condition for the TBC recoating process on INCONEL 939.
