Abstract

The internship at PT PLN Nusantara Power UMRO Gresik aimed to study the application of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) using the Liquid Penetrant Testing method during gas turbine overhaul combustion inspection activities. Data were collected through field observations, discussions, documentation, and literature studies. The examination procedures included surface cleaning, penetrant application, excess penetrant removal, developer application, and defect indication evaluation. The test results showed no indications of cracks or porosity on the welded joint surfaces. Any potential crack indications can be evaluated based on ASME acceptance criteria to determine areas requiring repair. Liquid Penetrant Testing has proven effective in detecting surface-breaking defects without damaging the inspected components. The application of this method assists in determining appropriate repair actions and supports the reliability and operational safety of gas turbines.
