Abstract
Limbah kulit yang dihasilkan oleh CV Nappa Milano Melangkah memiliki bentuk, ukuran, dan ketebalan yang beragam sehingga pemanfaatannya belum optimal serta memerlukan proses penyortiran yang memakan waktu. Padahal, limbah tersebut masih memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi material bernilai tambah bagi produk alas kaki. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan limbah kulit melalui pengembangan konsep low-waste pattern cutting dan modular and interlocking system sebagai strategi efisiensi material sekaligus menghasilkan nilai estetika dan fungsional yang tetap sesuai dengan karakter produk Nappa Milano. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Material Driven Design (MDD) dengan memahami karakteristik material sebagai dasar eksplorasi dan pengembangan desain. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara dengan pihak industri, studi literatur, serta eksplorasi material berdasarkan karakteristik limbah kulit hasil produksi. Hasil penelitian diharapkan menghasilkan rekomendasi pemanfaatan limbah kulit yang lebih efektif, meningkatkan efisiensi penggunaan material, serta mendukung pengembangan produk alas kaki yang selaras dengan identitas merek. Selain memberikan nilai tambah pada limbah produksi, penelitian ini juga berkontribusi terhadap penerapan prinsip keberlanjutan dan ekonomi sirkular dalam industri alas kaki.

Leather waste generated by CV Nappa Milano Melangkah varies in shape, size, and thickness, making its utilization inefficient and requiring a time-consuming sorting process. Despite these limitations, the waste material still possesses significant potential to be transformed into value-added components for footwear products. This study aims to optimize the utilization of leather waste through the application of low-waste pattern cutting and a modular and interlocking system as strategies to improve material efficiency while maintaining the aesthetic and functional qualities consistent with Nappa Milano's premium brand identity. The research adopts the Material Driven Design (MDD) approach, emphasizing the understanding of material characteristics as the foundation for design exploration and development. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with industri stakeholders, literature reviews, and material exploration based on the physical characteristics of leather waste generated during production. The expected outcome of this research is a practical design recommendation for more effective leather waste utilization, improved material efficiency, and the development of sustainable footwear products aligned with the brand identity. Furthermore, this study contributes to the implementation of sustainability and circular economy principles within the footwear industri.
