Abstract
Peningkatan kebutuhan energi dan keterbatasan bahan bakar fosil mendorong pengembangan energi terbarukan, salah satunya biodiesel. Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan biodiesel berbasis Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO).

Rising energy demands and the finite nature of fossil fuels are driving the development of renewable energy sources, including biodiesel. Indonesia possesses significant potential for developing biodiesel derived from Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO). This final project outlines the design of an RBDPO-based biodiesel plant with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, located in the Dumai Industrial Estate, Riau, utilizing an interesterification process with methyl acetate. The reaction is conducted at 55°C and atmospheric pressure over a 60-minute period, employing a heterogeneous calcium oxide (CaO) catalyst at 1 wt% of the oil; this process yields up to 98% biodiesel and produces triacetin as a value-added byproduct. Purification stages involve catalyst separation via filter press, phase separation using a decanter, removal of water and volatile components through a vacuum evaporator, and product cooling prior to storage. Mass and energy balances were calculated for each unit operation to verify process feasibility. Design results indicate that the produced biodiesel meets the quality standards of SNI 7182:2015, ASTM D6751, and EN 14214. This biodiesel plant is expected to support renewable energy development, enhance the value of RBDPO, and contribute to carbon emission reduction.
