Abstract
Gudang barang jadi PT Surabaya Wire yang menerapkan sistem block stacking mengalami inefisiensi pemanfaatan ruang dan kendala operasional akibat kebijakan random storage. Penempatan barang secara acak tanpa batasan ruang yang terstruktur memicu tingginya fenomena honeycombing (rongga kosong di dalam baris). Selain itu, minimnya alat kendali visual menyulitkan penerapan prinsip First-In First-Out (FIFO) dan berujung pada tingginya aktivitas penanganan ganda (double handling). Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang ulang tata letak gudang menggunakan metode class-based storage dan perhitungan Common Lane Depth (CLD) untuk mengoptimalkan kapasitas, serta merancang instrumen visual management dan Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guna mendukung kedisiplinan aliran FIFO. Berdasarkan klasifikasi ABC terhadap 29 produk menggunakan data mutasi barang periode Mei 2024 hingga April 2026, area penyimpanan dibagi menjadi tiga zona kelas. Hasil perhitungan CLD merekomendasikan batas kedalaman baris maksimal 2 palet untuk Kelas A dan B, serta 1 palet untuk Kelas C. Rancangan tata letak usulan ini menghasilkan kapasitas efektif sebesar 145 baris yang memuat 449 palet, dengan tetap mempertahankan standar keselamatan lebar lorong pengambilan dan jarak aman antar-palet. Adapun defisit ruang sebanyak 34 baris dari total kebutuhan rata-rata persediaan diusulkan untuk diatasi melalui strategi pembersihan produk dead stock di gudang sekunder. Penerapan instrumen visual berwujud penandaan lantai dan label pengambilan bersistem kait juga dirancang beserta SOP untuk mendukung peningkatan kedisiplinan operator. Melalui integrasi ini, kondisi operasional gudang diharapkan dapat beralih dari yang sebelumnya berbasis memori menuju standar visual yang terukur, sehingga penerapan aliran FIFO dan kelancaran pergerakan kendaraan dapat lebih terjaga.

The finished goods warehouse of PT Surabaya Wire, which implements a block stacking system, is currently experiencing spatial utilization inefficiencies and operational constraints due to a random storage policy. Unstructured random placement triggers a high rate of the honeycombing phenomenon (empty space within the rows). In addition, the lack of visual control tools complicates the implementation of the First-In First-Out (FIFO) principle, ultimately leading to high double-handling activities. This research aims to redesign the warehouse layout using the class-based storage method and Common Lane Depth (CLD) calculations to optimize capacity, as well as to design visual management instruments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to support FIFO flow discipline. Based on the ABC classification of 29 products using mutation data from May 2024 to April 2026, the storage area is divided into three class zones. The CLD calculation results recommend a maximum row depth limit of 2 pallets for Classes A and B, and 1 pallet for Class C. The proposed layout design yields an effective capacity of 145 rows containing 449 pallets, while maintaining safety standards for picking aisle width and safety clearance between pallets. The space deficit of 34 rows from the total average inventory requirement is proposed to be resolved through a strategy of clearing dead stock products in the secondary warehouse. The implementation of visual instruments, in the form of floor markings and hook-system picking labels, is also designed along with the SOP to support the improvement of operator discipline. Through this integration, the warehouse operational condition is expected to transition from memory-based operations to measurable visual standards, thereby better maintaining FIFO flow and smooth vehicle movement.
