Abstract

The increasing penetration of renewable energy and energy storage technologies necessitates more adaptive and efficient management of distribution systems. This study investigates the implementation of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), comprising rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), within the Bali distribution network to enhance voltage profile and minimize power losses. The optimization problem is formulated as a multi-objective function considering total power losses and voltage deviations from the nominal value. The Modified Particle Swarm Optimization Effective Guide (MPSOEG) algorithm is employed to determine the optimal power injection configuration of the VPP, subject to constraints including power capacity limits, voltage bounds, and the state of charge (SoC) of the BESS. The distribution system model and load flow simulations are developed using DIgSILENT PowerFactory, while the optimization process is implemented in Python. The results demonstrate that optimally controlled VPP integration enhances voltage stability and reduces power losses, thereby improving the reliability and efficiency of modern distribution systems.
