Abstract

This study aims to design a transformable women’s bag in a sling-to-clutch format by integrating the visual elements of Batik Kembang Truntum into a modern design system. The research is motivated by the tendency of batik motifs to be applied merely as decorative elements without adaptive visual transformation, as well as the need of urban women for flexible and functional fashion products. The design method employs a visual stylization approach to transform the motif into a monogram system, supported by semiotic analysis to identify essential visual signs to be retained, and affordance analysis to evaluate product usability. The outcomes of this study include a monogram design as a visual identity system and a sling-to-clutch bag prototype that supports multi-occasion use. The design is evaluated through usability testing to assess functional performance and users’ aesthetic perception. The results indicate that transforming traditional motifs into a monogram system can produce a more modern, adaptable design while maintaining cultural identity within contemporary fashion products.
