Abstract

Digital startups require individuals who possess both technical competence and an entrepreneurial orientation. However, computing graduates do not always translate their technological capabilities into entrepreneurial intention. This study examines digital entrepreneurial intention among undergraduates computing students by integrating university-based entrepreneurship ecosystems, growth mindset, and software development capabilities into an extended Theory of Planned Behavior framework. Data from 344 undergraduates computing students in Indonesia were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. The results show that entrepreneurial attitudes and subjective norms positively influence entrepreneurial intention. University-based entrepreneurship ecosystems also strengthen entrepreneurial attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Perceived behavioral control weakens the relationship between entrepreneurial attitudes and entrepreneurial intention but strengthens the relationship between subjective norms and entrepreneurial intention. Growth mindset positively moderates the effect of university-based entrepreneurship ecosystems on perceived behavioral control, although its moderating effect on entrepreneurial attitudes is not statistically significant. Software development capabilities also enhance perceived behavioral control. Mediation analysis confirms that entrepreneurial attitudes and subjective norms significantly mediate the effect of university-based entrepreneurship ecosystems on entrepreneurial intention. From a management of technology perspective, the findings highlight the importance of managing the interaction among technological competence, institutional support, and entrepreneurial development to transform computing capabilities into digital startup initiatives. This study extends the Theory of Planned Behavior and provides practical implications for universities seeking to design integrated entrepreneurship ecosystems and technology-based venture development programs, particularly in emerging economies.
