Abstract
Korosi merupakan permasalahan yang sering terjadi pada baja karbon, termasuk baja SS400, terutama ketika terpapar lingkungan yang mengandung ion klorida. Salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan untuk mengendalikan korosi melalui penambahan inhibitor ramah lingkungan berbasis kitosan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis kitosan larut air (WSC) dan mengetahui kinerjanya sebagai inhibitor korosi baja SS400 dalam media NaCl 3%. Hasil sintesis WSC dikarakterisasi menggunakan FTIR untuk mengetahui derajat deasetilasinya. Analisis kinerja inhibisi menggunakan metode weight loss, polarisasi potensiodinamik (PDP), dan Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan WSC berperan sebagai inhibitor campuran. Peningkatan konsentrasi inhibitor dapat menurunkan laju korosi hingga kondisi optimum yakni 100 mg/L dengan efisiensi inhibisi metode weightloss sebesar 53%, polarisai potensiodinamik sebesar 86%, dan EIS sebesar 42%. Pengujian EIS menunjukkan peningkatan nilai hambatan transfer muatan (charge transfer resistance) yang mengindikasikan terbentuknya lapisan pelindung pada permukaan logam. Analisis isoterm adsorpsi menunjukkan bahwa adsorpsi WSC pada permukaan baja SS400 cenderung mengikuti model isoterm Langmuir. Oleh karena itu, WSC dapat digunakan sebagai inhibitor untuk mengendalikan korosi pada baja SS400 dalam NaCl 3%.

Corrosion is a common problem in carbon steel, including SS400 steel, especially when exposed to environments containing chloride ions. One method that can be used to control corrosion is the addition of environmentally friendly chitosan-based inhibitors. This study aims to synthesize water-soluble chitosan (WSC) and determine its performance as a corrosion inhibitor for SS400 steel in a 3% NaCl solution. The synthesized WSC was characterized using FTIR to determine its degree of deacetylation. Inhibition performance was analyzed using the weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that WSC acteds as a mixed inhibitor. Increasing the inhibitor concentration reduced the corrosion rate to an optimal level of 100 mg/L, with inhibition efficiencies of 53% by the weight loss method, 86% by polarized potentiodynamic analysis, and 42% by EIS. EIS testing showed an increase in charge transfer resistance, indicating the formation of a protective layer on the metal surface. Adsorption isotherm analysis showed that WSC adsorption on the SS400 steel surface follows the Langmuir isotherm model. Therefore, WSC can be used as an inhibitor to control corrosion on SS400 steel in 3% NaCl.
