Abstract

This study aims to analyze the geometric characteristics of the Hexaloc Concrete Armour Unit, specifically focusing on the layer coefficient, porosity, coverage, and packing density against variations in slope inclination. The research utilized a dry experiment (tilt table test) on slopes ranging from 1:1 to 1:2, applying a single layer configuration with diamond and square grid patterns. The results indicate that the diamond grid yields higher coverage and packing density compared to the square grid. As the slope becomes steeper, the coverage and packing density decrease, while porosity increases due to gravitational forces widening the inter unit gaps. Conversely, the layer coefficient of Hexaloc remains constant at 1.45, indicating that the layer thickness is determined purely by the physical dimensional of the unit, unaffected by the slope angle. In conclusion, the effectiveness of a Hexaloc breakwater heavily relies on optimizing the slope inclination to balance the interlocking strength of the arrangement and the wave dissipating voids.
