Abstract
==============================================================================================================================
This internship report examines the implementation of practical work at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk., Karaha Area, with a focus on the utilization of geothermal energy for electricity generation and the inspection and operation of supporting utility systems. The Karaha Geothermal Power Plant (GPP), with an installed capacity of 30 MW, utilizes geothermal steam produced from the KRH and TLG production well clusters. The steam is separated using a separator and purified through a scrubber before being directed to drive the turbine and generator. In addition to discussing the production process, mass balance, energy balance, and occupational safety analysis using the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) method on the scrubber system, this report also presents a case study on troubleshooting the regeneration process of cation and anion resins in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) water demineralization unit. The demineralized water is used as make-up water for the Closed Cooling Water (CCW) system. The performance evaluation of the ion-exchange resins showed that regeneration using 4% hydrochloric acid (HCl) and 6% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solutions successfully reduced the electrical conductivity (EC) of the demineralized water from 5.9 µS/cm to 1.0 µS/cm while restoring the water pH to a neutral range. The resin regeneration process achieved an effectiveness of approximately 83.05%.
