Abstract

The rapid growth of the denim fashion industry has contributed to an increasing amount of textile waste, particularly denim offcuts, which are often underutilized. Most existing efforts to reuse denim waste focus primarily on its functional value, while its aesthetic potential of denim offcuts as the primary visual elemment in the design of modular bags. The research employed of the Design Thinking method, consisting of the empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test stage. Material exploration was conducted through various compositions of shape, textures, colors, and construction techniques, resulting in three distinctive visual themes: Rebellion, Liberation, and Redemption. These explorations were then implemented in modular bag designs featuring detachable pockets to enhance flexibility and adaptability according to user’s needs. The results demonstarte that denim offcuts prossess significant potential as an aesthetic design element while maintaining product functionality. This approach offers an alternative strategy for utilizing textile waste by integrating sustainbility, aesthetic value, and user-centered functionality into product design.
