Abstract

Sampah laut merupakan salah satu permasalahan lingkungan yang memerlukan teknologi pengumpulan yang efektif dan efisien. Kapal trash skimmer tipe katamaran memiliki potensi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengumpulan sampah karena karakteristik geometri lambungnya yang mampu mengarahkan aliran menuju daerah penangkapan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh variasi bentuk lambung katamaran, sudut masuk haluan, dan keberadaan lengan penangkap sampah terhadap karakteristik hidrodinamika kapal, meliputi hambatan total, distribusi kecepatan aliran, serta potensi kapasitas pengumpulan sampah. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) berbasis Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) dengan pemodelan multiphase udara–air. Variasi bentuk lambung yang dianalisis terdiri atas lambung simetris, Inner Flat hull, dan Outer Flat hull. Selain itu dilakukan variasi sudut masuk haluan sebesar 24°, 30°, dan sudut eksisting 39°, serta penambahan lengan penangkap sampah. Sampah, keranjang, dan lengan penangkap dimodelkan sebagai media berpori. Validasi dilakukan dengan membandingkan hambatan hasil simulasi terhadap hambatan hasil perhitungan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi bentuk lambung, perubahan sudut masuk haluan, serta keberadaan lengan penangkap memberikan pengaruh terhadap karakteristik aliran dan hambatan kapal. Penambahan lengan terbukti meningkatkan kecepatan aliran di antara kedua lambung melalui mekanisme pemusatan aliran, sehingga debit dan kapasitas pengumpulan sampah meningkat. Akan tetapi, peningkatan kemampuan pengumpulan tersebut diikuti oleh kenaikan hambatan total sistem akibat bertambahnya resistansi aliran. Sementara itu, perubahan sudut masuk haluan memengaruhi keseimbangan antara hambatan kapal dan kapasitas pengumpulan sampah. Dengan demikian, pemilihan konfigurasi desain perlu mempertimbangkan kompromi antara rendahnya hambatan hidrodinamika dan tingginya efektivitas pengumpulan sampah.

Marine debris is one of the environmental problems that requires an effective and efficient collection technology. Catamaran-type trash skimmer vessels have the potential to improve waste collection performance due to their hull geometry characteristics, which can direct the flow toward the collection area. This study aims to investigate the effects of catamaran hull configuration, bow entrance angle, and the presence of collection arms on the hydrodynamic characteristics of the vessel, including total resistance, flow velocity distribution, and waste collection capacity. The study was conducted using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with an air–water multiphase model. The hull configurations considered in this study include symmetric hulls, Inner Flat hulls, and Outer Flat hulls. Variations of bow entrance angle of 24°, 30°, and the existing 39° configuration were analysed, along with the addition of collection arms. Waste, basket, and collection arms were modelled as porous media. Validation was carried out by comparing the simulated resistance with the calculated resistance values. The results indicate that hull configuration, bow entrance angle variation, and collection arms significantly affect the flow characteristics and ship resistance. The addition of collection arms increases the flow velocity between the demi-hulls through a contraction effect, resulting in higher flow rates and waste collection capacity. However, the improvement in collection performance is accompanied by an increase in total system resistance due to additional flow resistance. Meanwhile, changes in bow entrance angle influence the trade-off between ship resistance and waste collection performance. Therefore, the selection of the optimum configuration should consider a balance between low hydrodynamic resistance and high waste collection effectiveness.
