Abstract

Parameter evaluasi meliputi Net Present Cost (NPC), Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE), Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), dan Levelized Cost of Ammonia (LCOA).

Green ammonia production has emerged as a promising decarbonization strategy for the fertilizer industry by utilizing hydrogen produced through renewable energy-powered water electrolysis. However, its implementation is challenged by the continuous electricity demand of the ammonia synthesis process, whereas Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems are inherently intermittent. Therefore, integrating PV systems with energy storage and the utility grid is essential to ensure reliable power supply. This study aims to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of various energy supply configurations for green ammonia production in the fertilizer industrial area of North Aceh, Indonesia. System modeling and optimization were performed using HOMER Pro by comparing four scenarios: PLN Grid, PV On-Grid, PV On-Grid with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and PV Off-Grid. The evaluation was based on Net Present Cost (NPC), Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE), Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), and Levelized Cost of Ammonia (LCOA). The results indicate that the PV On-Grid configuration is the most feasible option, achieving the lowest LCOH of RP. 105,222/kg H₂ and an LCOA of Rp. 22,567,875/t NH₃, while providing the best balance between investment cost, energy supply reliability, and solar energy utilization. In contrast, the PV Off-Grid configuration requires substantially larger PV and energy storage capacities, resulting in the highest capital investment and NPC. The integration of PV systems with the PLN grid through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) scheme represents a practical transition pathway for supporting green ammonia development and industrial decarbonization in Indonesia.
