Abstract

B100 biodiesel accelerates lubricant degradation in diesel engines due to its high oxidative properties. Viscosity and total base number (TBN) decline rapidly during short operating periods. This study analyzes the effect of 1% Castor Oil and 0.5% Eugenol additives on Mesran SAE 40 lubricant. These additives were tested against lubricant degradation and engine performance on a Yanmar TF-85MH fueled with B100. The experimental method used two lubricant samples: pure oil and additive-enhanced oil. Both samples were tested for 200 hours following the EMA engine durability standard. Physical and chemical properties were analyzed by a certified laboratory. Wear metals were measured using the ASTM D5185-18 method while torque power and SFOC were measured at maximum torque. The additive-enhanced oil showed only a 7.7% viscosity decline while pure oil declined by 34.1%. Iron content dropped 80.6% and lead content dropped 97.5% in the additive-enhanced oil. The laboratory classified pure oil as Severe and additive-enhanced oil as Attention. Additive-enhanced oil also produced higher torque and power with lower SFOC. The results prove that combining Castor Oil and Eugenol slows lubricant degradation and improves diesel engine efficiency using B100 fuel. This natural additive combination shows potential as an environmentally friendly alternative for the maritime sector.
