Abstract

Penelitian mengenai minyak kondensat Kutubu, Cekungan Papua, Papua Nugini telah dilakukan untuk menentukan implikasi geokimianya melalui analisis biomarka menggunakan Kromatografi Gas-Spektrometri Massa (KG-SM). Analisis biomarka menunjukkan adanya deret homolog n-alkana (C11-C33) dengan distribusi unimodal, dan kelimpahan maksimum pada n-alkana rantai pendek (<n-C20) yang mengindikasikan bahwa sumber bahan organik utamanya berasal dari alga dan bakteri akuatik, dengan sedikit kontribusi tumbuhan vaskular. Hal ini didukung oleh nilai beberapa parameter biomarka alifatik seperti CPI, WI, TAR, LHCPI, dan aromatik berupa DMR dan TMR. Nilai parameter MDBF mengindikasikan lingkungan pengendapan berada pada wilayah transisi delta dengan kadar oksigen pada rentang sub-oksik hingga oksik, yang dianalisis berdasarkan rasio Pr/Ph yang relatif tinggi (3,40), serta cross plot Pr/Ph terhadap CPI. Nilai OEP yang rendah, dan tingginya kelimpahan senyawa aromatik stabil menunjukkan kondensat telah matang. Parameter MPR dan MPI-1 yang diaplikasikan untuk pemetaan tingkat kematangan menunjukkan kondensat bersifat matang sedang. Pemetaan dengan diagram Hunt menunjukkan bahwa sampel kondensat yang diteliti berasal dari batuan induk yang diklasifikasikan sebagai kerogen tipe II-III, yang berpotensi sebagai oil prone dan gas prone. Hasil analisis biomarka secara keseluruhan menunjukkan minyak kondensat Kutubu terbentuk dari bahan organik campuran akuatik dan terrestrial yang terendapkan dalam lingkungan transisi bersifat oksik dan telah mengalami kematangan termal yang relatif matang.

A study of Kutubu condensate oil from the Papua Basin in Papua New Guinea was conducted to determine its geochemical implications through biomarker analysis using Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Biomarker analysis revealed the presence of a homologous series of n-alkanes (n-C11–n-C33) with a unimodal distribution and maximum abundance in short-chain n-alkanes (<n-C20), indicating that the primary source of organic matter derived from algae and aquatic bacteria, with a minor contribution from vascular plants. This is supported by the values of several aliphatic biomarker parameters such as CPI, WI, TAR, and LHCPI, as well as aromatic parameters such as DMR and TMR. The MDBF parameter value indicates that the depositional environment was located in a transitional deltaic zone with sub-oxic to oxic conditions, as demonstrated by relatively high Pr/Ph ratio (3.40) and the Pr/Ph cross-plot against CPI. The low OEP value and high abundance of stable aromatic compounds indicate that the condensate is mature. The MPR and MPI-1 parameters, applied to map the maturity level, indicate that the condensate is moderately mature. Mapping using the Hunt diagram shows that the condensate samples studied originated from source rocks classified as Type II–III kerogen, which have the potential to be both oil-prone and gas-prone. The overall results of the biomarker analysis indicate that the Kutubu condensate oil was formed from a mixture of aquatic and terrestrial organic matter deposited in a sub-oxic to oxic transitional environment and has undergone moderate to high thermal maturity.
