Abstract
Mikroplastik (MP) merupakan partikel plastik berukuran 1 μm–5 mm yang bersifat persisten dan mencemari lahan pertanian. Sayuran daun berpotensi menyerap MP dari tanah dan mentranslokasikannya ke bagian yang dikonsumsi, sehingga menjadi jalur paparan harian bagi manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi karakteristik fisik (bentuk,ukuran, warna) dan kimia (jenis polimer) MP serta menghitung Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) pada selada (Lactuca sativa), bayam (Amaranthus sp.), dan sawi (Brassica juncea). Sampel diambil secara triplikasi dari perkebunan sayur organik dari dua lokasi berbeda. Kemudian, ekstraksi MP dilakukan dengan metode Wet Peroxide Oxidation (WPO) pada 1 g berat kering, dilanjutkan pemisahan densitas dengan NaCl 1,2 g/mL. Karakterisasi fisik menggunakan mikroskop stereo dan identifikasi polimer dengan ATR-FTIR. EDI dihitung berdasarkan konsentrasi MP, laju konsumsi sayuran nasional (0,155 kg/orang/hari) dan berat badan rata-rata (60 kg). Hasil menunjukkan seluruh sampel terkontaminasi MP dengan dominasi bentuk fragmen, ukuran 1–5 µm (86,39–95,42%) dan warna hitam (94,71–100%). Polimer teridentifikasi meliputi polypropylene (PP) dan polyethylene (PE). Nilai EDI tertinggi ditemukan pada bayam (11,72 partikel/kg BB/hari), sawi (8,36), dan selada (7,49). Meskipun belum ada ambang batas paparan MP secara internasional, temuan ini mengonfirmasi bahwa konsumsi sayuran daun merupakan salah satu jalur paparan MP bagi manusia dan menjadi dasar penting bagi evaluasi keamanan pangan di Indonesia.

Microplastics (MP) are plastic particles ranging from 1 μm to 5 mm in size that are persistent and contaminate agricultural land. Leafy vegetables have the potential to absorb MP from soil and translocate them to the edible portions, thus becoming a route of daily exposure for humans. This study aimed to identify the physical characteristics (shape, size, color) and chemical characteristics (polymer type) of MP as well as to calculate the Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) in three types of leafy vegetables, namely lettuce (Lactuca sativa), spinach (Amaranthus sp.), and mustard greens (Brassica juncea). Samples were collected in triplicate from organic vegetable farms from two different locations. MP extraction was performed using the Wet Peroxide Oxidation (WPO) method on 1 g of dry weight, followed by density separation using NaCl 1.2 g/mL. Physical characterization was conducted using a stereo microscope, while polymer identification was performed using ATR-FTIR. EDI was calculated based on MP concentration, national vegetable consumption rate (0.155 kg/person/day), and average body weight (60 kg). The results showed that all samples were contaminated with MP, dominated by fragment shapes, sizes of 1–5 µm (86.39–95.42%), and black color (94.71–100%). The identified polymers included polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). The highest EDI value was found in spinach (11.72 particles/kg BW/day), followed by mustard greens (8.36), and lettuce (7.49). Although there is no internationally established threshold for MP exposure, these findings confirm that leafy vegetable consumption serves as one of the routes of MP exposure for humans and provides an important basis for food safety evaluation in Indonesia.
