Abstract
Speculative design menggeser peran arsitektur dari praktik pemecahan masalah menuju problem finding yang membuka peluang untuk membaca ulang kondisi faktual melalui skenario
alternatif.

Speculative design shifts the role of architecture from a problem-solving practice toward one of problem-finding, creating opportunities to re-examine factual conditions through alternative scenarios. This shift aligns with the economic history of Surabaya, which suggests that the trading city possessed strong developmental potential before being halted by national centralization. This raises the possibility of an alternative historical trajectory had power in 1945 fallen into the hands of the merchant class (saudagar). Within this context, there is a need to explore how architectural expression takes shape when capitalism becomes the primary urban driver, including the types of spaces and typologies that emerge as trade transitions from physical commodities to capital markets. A conceptual-speculative approach is employed to view architecture as a 'theater of capitalism,' where stock transactions are treated as performances reflecting capitalist values. Through this scenario construction, the trading floor occupies a central role as a space of representation and economic legitimacy, even as transactions have moved into the digital realm. This design aims to serve as a discursive medium to consider how capitalist systems shape space and direct architectural experience within an alternative Surabaya scenario.
