Abstract

Melalui metode Sequence Narrative, rancangan disusun dalam tiga fase pengalaman, yaitu Exposing the Bias, Learning to Navigate Differently, dan Reflecting to Attune.

Architecture has always been an experience that engages the body and all five senses. However, ocularcentrism, the tendency to place vision at the center of spatial perception, still dominates modern architectural practice. As a result, space is more often understood as a visual object, while multisensory and affective bodily experiences receive less attention. Starting from the theory of Embodied Simulation by Mallgrave, this final project will rethink architecture as an empathetic medium capable of activating multisensory, pre-reflective bodily and emotional responses. The design was developed through a concept-based framework, with literature reviews covering theories of empathy, the phenomenology of the body, semi-formal learning environments, precedent analysis, and interviews serving as the basis for developing the concept and design criteria. The proposed typology is an Experimental Museum in South Jakarta, Indonesia, serving as a semi-formal learning environment for the public. This museum is not oriented toward exhibiting collections but rather toward visitors’ bodily perceptual experiences. The central concept of the design is “Architecture as Attunement” means architecture as a medium for recalibrating the body’s sensitivity to space. Through the Sequence Narrative method, the design is structured into three phases of experience: “Exposing the Bias”, “Learning to Navigate Differently” and ‘Reflecting to Attune.” Visual experiences are not entirely eliminated, but their dominance is gradually reduced so that visitors learn to interpret the space through multisensory cues such as handrails, textures, sounds, light, and pauses. Throughout the design, which consists of this sequence of spatial experiences, visitors are encouraged to acknowledge that space is not solely understood as a visual experience, but rather through the holistic engagement of the body, the senses, and emotions.
