Abstract
=====================================================================================================================================
Maritime transportation still relies on petroleum-based fossil fuels. As a result, the shipping sector accounted for 2.89% of CO2 greenhouse gas emissions in 2018. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been working to reduce emissions with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. One strategy that can be implemented is the transition to more environmentally friendly alternative fuels, specifically Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This study aims to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of replacing diesel generator auxiliary engines with LNG-fueled dual-fuel engines on a 30,000 DWT tanker. From a technical perspective, the engine specifications are a HiMSEN 6H27DF dual-fuel engine with a power requirement of 1,300 kW and an operating speed of 720 RPM. Furthermore, the required LNG fuel consumption is 17,701 liters, resulting in a need for an ISO tank with a volume of 20,000 liters, equivalent to a 20 ft container. The feasibility analysis results, based on the Net Present Value (NPV) parameter, are IDR 3,847,385,319, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 16.11%, a project payback period of 6.75 years, and a Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) of 1.21. Based on the feasibility analysis, all indicators show positive results and meet the investment feasibility criteria; therefore, replacing the diesel generator with an LNG-fueled dual-fuel engine on a 30,000 DWT tanker is feasible, both from a technical and economic perspective.
