Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove memiliki peran penting dalam menjaga stabilitas kawasan pesisir, namun rentan mengalami kerusakan akibat aktivitas biotik seperti herbivori. Tingkat kerusakan daun akibat herbivori diduga berhubungan dengan kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder, penolak (deterrent) dan nutrien pada daun. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat kerusakan daun Rhizophora mucronata akibat aktivitas serangga herbivora serta mengetahui pola profil kandungan kimiawi yang berkaitan dengan palatabilitas daun terhadap tingkat herbivori. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Raya Mangrove Gunung Anyar, Surabaya. Pengambilan sampel daun dilakukan berdasarkan usia daun yang dilihat dari warna dan posisi daun pada ranting dari individu R. mucronata yang memiliki tingkat kerusakan daun berbeda. Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi luas area kerusakan daun, persentase kerusakan daun, serta kandungan nutrien daun yaitu N, kadar air, dan senyawa anti herbivor daun yaitu serat kasar, tanin, polifenol, flavonoid, dan saponin. Data tingkat kerusakan dan kandungan kimiawi daun disajikan dalam bentuk grafik, kemudian dibandingkan secara deskriptif kuantitatif untuk mengetahui pola profil kandungan kimiawi terhadap tingkat herbivori daun muda dan tua R. mucronata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daun muda memiliki luas area kerusakan dan persentase herbivori lebih tinggi (14,56 cm²; 26,62%) dibandingkan daun tua (8,06 cm²; 9,08%). Kandungan nutrien berupa nitrogen (0,56%) dan kadar air (68,61%) lebih tinggi pada daun muda dibandingkan daun tua (0,52% dan 65,43%). Sementara itu, kandungan senyawa anti herbivor berupa serat kasar lebih tinggi pada daun tua (6,05%) dibandingkan daun muda (4,03%), sedangkan metabolit sekunder berupa tanin (13,71%), polifenol (13,09%), flavonoid (0,87%), dan saponin (0,44%) lebih tinggi pada daun muda dibandingkan daun tua (masing-masing 7,06%; 8,26%; 0,82%; dan 0,41%). Pola profil kandungan kimiawi menunjukkan bahwa kandungan nutrien serta metabolit sekunder berbanding lurus dengan persentase herbivori, sedangkan kandungan serat kasar berbanding terbalik dengan persentase herbivori. ==================================================================================================================================
Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in maintaining the stability of coastal areas but are vulnerable to damage caused by biotic activities such as herbivory. The level of leaf damage caused by herbivory is thought to be associated with the content of secondary metabolites, deterrent compounds, and nutrients in the leaves. This study aimed to analyze the level of leaf damage in Rhizophora mucronata caused by herbivorous insects and to determine the chemical profile patterns associated with leaf palatability and herbivory levels. The study was conducted at the Gunung Anyar Mangrove Botanical Garden, Surabaya. Leaf samples were collected based on leaf age, which was determined by leaf color and position on the branch of R. mucronata individuals exhibiting different levels of leaf damage. The collected data included the damaged leaf area, percentage of leaf herbivory, leaf nutrient contents (nitrogen and water content), and anti-herbivore compounds (crude fiber, tannins, polyphenols, flavonoids, and saponins). Data on leaf damage and chemical composition were presented in graphs and analyzed descriptively to determine the chemical profile patterns associated with herbivory levels in young and mature leaves of R. mucronata. The results showed that young leaves had a greater damaged leaf area and higher herbivory percentage (14.56 cm² and 26.62%, respectively) than mature leaves (8.06 cm² and 9.08%, respectively). The nutrient contents, including nitrogen (0.56%) and water content (68.61%), were higher in young leaves than in mature leaves (0.52% and 65.43%, respectively). In contrast, the crude fiber content, an anti-herbivore compound, was higher in mature leaves (6.05%) than in young leaves (4.03%). However, the concentrations of secondary metabolites, including tannins (13.71%), polyphenols (13.09%), flavonoids (0.87%), and saponins (0.44%), were higher in young leaves than in mature leaves (7.96%, 8.26%, 0.82%, and 0.41%, respectively). The chemical profile patterns indicated that nutrient contents and secondary metabolites were positively correlated with the percentage of herbivory, whereas crude fiber content was negatively correlated with the percentage of herbivory.
