Abstract

The wood furniture industry in Indonesia is currently facing a major challenges due to the decline in export value and demands related to global sustainability, such as the Lacey Act in the United States and the Paris Agreement. The problems that identified in the fields are including defective products and waiting waste in the production process. This study aims to identify waste and environmental impacts in the wood furniture production process at PT Tjakrindo Mas with the base concept of integrating Lean and Green Manufacturing. The study began with process mapping via Green Value Stream Mapping; the mapping revealed that the necessary but non-value-added activities accounted for 34.27% and the non-value-added activities accounted for 13.36% of the process. The Pareto analysis identified the CNC machine set up process and the second stage of the CNC process as the largest contributors to waiting waste, while the veneer application process and raw material processing were the largest contributors to energy consumption. Based on the results of the 5 Whys analysis, five alternative improvement recommendations were formulated. Weighting the criteria using AHP revealed that the implementation cost and the ease of implementation were the criteria with the highest levels of importance (0.4326) and (0.3148). The priority decisions using the TOPSIS method identified that the proposed implementation of Poka-Yoke through standard operating procedures (SOPs) for adhesive dosage and surface quality control as the top-priority improvement recommendation (Vi = 0.8523). Finally, the results of the sensitivity analysis by changing the weights by ±5% and ±10% proved that the priority rankings are robust and can be used as a valid basis for the company’s decision-making, regarding improvements.
