Abstract
Design system telah menjadi praktik standar dalam pengembangan UI/UX, namun, umumnya menstandarkan komponen ("what") dan jarang mendokumentasikan rasionalisasi keputusan desain ("why"). Kesenjangan ini kritis pada start-up dengan bersumber daya terbatas, tempat solo designer mengelola produk multi-brand sehingga banyak keputusan desain berisiko hilang (knowledge evaporation) dan memicu ambiguitas saat handoff. Penelitian ini merancang dan mengevaluasi Design Documentation Canvas, kerangka dokumentasi design rationale dan traceability yang mengintegrasikan model Feature-Specification-Evidence (FSE) dan notasi QOC/TEAM, diwujudkan sebagai canvas Figma yang terintegrasi dalam alur kerja JIRA. Melalui studi kasus tunggal di PT Friendsure Teknologi Indonesia (pendekatan kualitatif dominan; peneliti sebagai participant-observer), data dikumpulkan dari dua sesi FGD (sembilan partisipan), satu wawancara individual, kuesioner skala enam poin (n=10), dan analisis artefak. Canvas dapat diproduksi secara konsisten pada seluruh tiket yang memenuhi kriteria (17 dari 17; completeness 100%); capaian ini menunjukkan ketersediaan artefak, bukan bukti bahwa miskomunikasi menurun secara objektif. Seluruh item kuesioner bermedian dan bermodus 6 dengan 100% pada sisi setuju, melampaui ambang ≥70%, serta Cronbach's Alpha 0,853. Secara kualitatif, analisis tematik menghasilkan enam tema, yaitu peningkatan kejelasan handoff lintas peran dan temuan tak terduga bahwa panel Before-After berfungsi sebagai kalibrasi awal scope kerja developer; sementara elemen QOC/TEAM belum tervalidasi secara empiris karena jarang terisi. Kontribusinya integratif dan aplikatif, artefak yang layak diterapkan dan diterima positif dalam satu kasus pada tingkat persepsi, bukan klaim efektivitas yang tergeneralisasi. Keterbatasan utama: studi kasus tunggal, sampel kecil dengan ceiling effect, dan potensi bias peneliti.

Design systems have become a standard practice in UI/UX development; however, they generally standardize components (the "what") and rarely document the underlying design rationale (the "why"). This gap is critical in resource-constrained startups, where solo designers manage multi-brand products, leaving many design decisions at risk of being lost (knowledge evaporation) and triggering ambiguity during handoff. This study designs and evaluates the Design Documentation Canvas, a framework for design rationale and traceability documentation that integrates the Feature-Specification-Evidence (FSE) model and QOC/TEAM notation, implemented as a Figma canvas integrated into the JIRA workflow. Through a single case study at PT Friendsure Teknologi Indonesia (dominant qualitative approach; researcher as participant-observer), data were gathered from two FGD sessions (nine participants), one individual interview, a six-point scale questionnaire (n=10), and artifact analysis. The canvas could be consistently produced across all tickets that met the criteria (17 out of 17; 100% completeness); this achievement indicates artifact availability rather than objective proof of decreased miscommunication. All questionnaire items yielded a median and mode of 6, with 100% on the agreeing side, surpassing the ≥70% threshold, and a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.853. Qualitatively, thematic analysis generated six themes, including improved cross-role handoff clarity and an unexpected finding that the Before-After panel serves as an early calibration for the developers' scope of work; meanwhile, the QOC/TEAM elements remained empirically unvalidated due to being rarely filled. Its contribution is integrative and applicable, offering an artifact feasible for implementation and positively received within a single case at the perceptual level, rather than a generalized claim of effectiveness. Major limitations include a single case study, a small sample size with a ceiling effect, and potential researcher bias.
