Abstract

Ni-Co/ZSM-5 is a bifunctional catalyst with potential for various catalytic applications due to the combination of active metal sites and the unique characteristics of zeolite. Crystallite size is one of the important parameters affecting catalyst properties and performance because it is closely related to surface area, metal dispersion, and the number of active sites. This study aimed to optimize the crystal size of Ni-Co/ZSM-5 catalysts using the Taguchi Design of Experiments approach. The catalysts were synthesized by the wet impregnation method and characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The factors investigated in this study were Ni-Co loading (2; 4; and 8 wt%), impregnation time (3; 6; and 12 h), and reducing agents (hydrazine hydrate, sodium borohydride, and ascorbic acid). The characterization results showed that all samples retained the characteristic crystalline structure of ZSM-5 after the impregnation and reduction processes. The obtained crystal sizes ranged from 30.73 to 37.37 nm. Taguchi analysis indicated that the optimum synthesis conditions were achieved at a metal loading of 8 wt%, an impregnation time of 12 h, and the use of hydrazine hydrate as the reducing agent. The contribution of each factor was represented by percentage contributions of 57.6% for impregnation time, 20.0% for Ni-Co loading, and 22.4% for the reducing agent.
