Abstract

Geophysical surveys using resistivity and induced polarization (IP) methods were conducted at the “S” prospect, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, Indonesia, to identify potential gold (Au) mineralization zones. Geologically, the “S” prospect is situated within an epithermal deposit environment, with the Batu Ampar Formation serving as the host rock. This formation consists of volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks characteristic of the southern mountainous region of Java Island. The alteration developed in this area is highly complex, marked by a distinctive oxidation zone at the surface. Secondary data from the resistivity and IP surveys, acquired using a pole-dipole configuration, were utilized in this study. The data consist of 3 lines, each with a profile length of 2,600 meters. The data were then processed and inverted using Res2Dinv software, producing 2D resistivity and chargeability cross-sections for interpretation. Furthermore, 3D modeling was performed by integrating the inversion values into Leapfrog Geo. The 3D model was subsequently correlated with available drillhole data at the study site, demonstrating a positive correlation. This study successfully identified potential gold mineralization zones within the research area. Generally, the potential mineralization zones are characterized by high chargeability values (greater than 32 ms) and highly variable resistivity values (10 to 3,000 Ωm). Conversely, non-mineralized zones exhibit low resistivity (less than 50 Ωm) and low chargeability (less than 20 ms) values. Further surveys and integration with other geophysical methods are required to confirm these findings. The results of this study are also expected to serve as a reference for subsequent mining activities.
