Abstract
Although Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is increasingly integrated into Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) environments, existing studies predominantly emphasize developer productivity, conceptual frameworks, or isolated automation capabilities, with limited controlled evidence demonstrating measurable improvements in enterprise release performance under governance constraints. In particular, the mechanisms through which AI restructures release pipelines and affects lead time for changes remain insufficiently understood. This study addresses this gap by integrating concurrent engineering (CE) principles with on-premises AI-augmented DevSecOps and empirically evaluating their combined impact on agile release management. A quasi-experimental, within-team design compared two equivalent Scrum sprints of two weeks each, separated by a one-week transition period: a baseline sequential DevSecOps pipeline and an intervention pipeline re-architected using CE-based parallelization and AI support via Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). The lead time for changes served as the primary metric, supported by deployment frequency and change failure rate. The results demonstrated a statistically significant 39.2% reduction in the mean lead time, along with improved deployment frequency and reduced failure rate. Stage-level analysis revealed that security validation and approval bottlenecks were transformed into parallelized, AI-augmented workflows. This study contributes controlled empirical validation of AI-enabled concurrent release composition, a CE–AI integration framework for DevSecOps maturity advancement, and evidence that accelerated delivery and strengthened governance can be achieved simultaneously in regulated enterprise contexts.
