Abstract

MSMEs play a vital role in the Indonesian economy, but they still face challenges in managing the tacit knowledge inherent in individual workers. This situation occurs at Baby Sun, a shoe manufacturing company, where most knowledge is acquired through work experience and hands-on practice, putting it at risk of being lost when the workforce changes. This study aims to identify the characteristics of tacit knowledge, analyze the knowledge conversion process based on the SECI (Socialization, Externalization, Combination, Internalization) model, identify the need for a Knowledge Management System (KMS), and design a KMS that suits the operational conditions of Baby Sun. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method through interviews, observations, and documentation of seven informants. The results showed that tacit knowledge was dominated by sewing skills, gluing, quality control, and experience-based work techniques. The socialization and internalization processes have occurred naturally, while externalization and combination have not been optimal due to the lack of documentation and a knowledge repository. Based on user needs, a KMS was designed consisting of knowledge repository, visual documentation, knowledge sharing, and knowledge search features. The study concluded that KMS has the potential to help Baby Sun MSMEs manage knowledge more systematically, reduce the risk of knowledge loss, and support organizational learning and knowledge sustainability.
