Abstract

Dalam kondisi hypermodern, masyarakat menghadapi banyak kebisingan dan distraksi, stimulus sensori yang berlebih, dan fragmentasi makna. Sementara institusi religius terus
mempertahankan ruang sakral mereka, banyak individu kini mencari spiritualitas di luar batas doktrinal dan mencari lingkungan yang lebih inklusif untuk memenuhi kebutuhan spiritual mereka. Teori Transcending Architecture merespons permasalahan ini dengan menawarkan perspektif alternatif, bahwa arsitektur harus beralih melampaui wujud fisiknya untuk memunculkan pengalaman spiritual dalam diri manusia, yang pada akhirnya menggeser makna kesakralan menjadi suatu pengalaman yang lebih personal. Melalui lensa teori ini, tugas akhir ini berusaha untuk mengeksplorasi desain ruang sakral yang universal untuk memfasilitasi spektrum kepercayaan yang lebih luas dalam rangka membangkitkan pengalaman spiritual melalui interaksi antara cahaya, keheningan, dan material. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini,
dilakukan studi literatur terhadap teori utama dan dilanjutkan dengan menerapkan Concept Based Framework milik Plowright untuk menuntun proses desain selanjutnya. Pendekatan fenomenologi dan metode desain metafora dipilih sebagai cara berpikir yang sesuai untuk memunculkan atmosfer sakral melalui pengaturan elemen sensori. Dengan menginterpretasi kesakralan sebagai pengalaman yang fleksibel, desain mengusulkan sebuah ruang publik
kontemplatif yang tidak hanya terbuka untuk berbagai kepercayaan, tetapi juga mewadahi dialog dan mendukung toleransi dalam masyarakat yang plural.

Under hypermodern conditions, society is increasingly exposed to noise and distraction, excessive sensory stimulation, and fragmentation of meaning. While religious institutions continue to preserve their sacred spaces, many individuals now seek spirituality beyond doctrinal boundaries, instead turning to inclusive environments for contemplation and reflection. The theory of Transcending Architecture responds to this matter by proposing that
architecture must move beyond its physical structure to create spiritual experiences within the self, thus shifting sacredness more into an experiential condition. Through the lens of this theory, the final project explores how to design a universal sacred space for a broader spectrum
of faith that evokes spiritual experience through the interplay of light, silence, and material. To achieve this objective, a literature study of the main theory is conducted, extended by employing Plowright’s Concept-Based Framework to guide the design process. A phenomenological
approach and metaphorical design method are then chosen as a suitable way of thinking to bring out a sacred atmosphere through the arrangement of sensory elements. Finally, by reinterpreting sacredness as a flexible experience, this proposal put forward a contemplative public space that
not only welcomes universal spirituality but also supports dialogue and tolerance within a plural
society.
