Abstract

Switchgear modules are essential components in electrical power distribution systems that function to control, protect, and distribute electrical power. Before being deployed, each module must undergo a Factory Routine Test (FRT) to ensure that its electrical characteristics and functional performance comply with the required standards. In the existing Quality Control process, testing is still performed using a conventional simulator that requires manual rewiring for different module configurations. This approach increases testing time, raises the possibility of operator error, and makes test documentation less efficient. This study develops a Switchgear module testing simulator based on a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and a Human Machine Interface (HMI), integrated with a data acquisition system, a Decision Tree classification model, a monitoring dashboard, and an Approval Report. The acquired test data are processed automatically to determine whether each I/O pin is classified as APPROVED or Non-Conformance Report (NCR). The developed system integrates configuration, evaluation, monitoring, and documentation into a single workflow, eliminating the need for manual rewiring when testing different module configurations. Experimental results show that the proposed system reduces testing time by 37.4% compared with the conventional method, while the Decision Tree model achieves a classification accuracy of 97.12%. Overall, the developed system provides a more structured, efficient, and well-documented Quality Control process, supporting the digitalization of Switchgear module testing.
