Abstract

Bandung Geological Museum is the only geological museum in Indonesia, holding a total of 268,634 geological collections (geoheritage), with approximately 0.74% (±2,000 objects) displayed as an educational geotourism destination. In fulfilling this role, there is a gap between the museum’s vision to become an inclusive museum and the existing exhibition spaces, which have not fully accommodated the diversity of visitors, including persons with disabilities. In addition, the museum’s vision to present collection information and their interrelationships has not been fully realized, so visitors do not yet gain a full understanding of the geological information and relationships between collections. This study aims to redesign the interior of Bandung Geological Museum using a narratology approach within an inclusive design framework to enhance the quality of the visitor experience. The methods employed include literature review, site observation, visitor ergonomic studies, questionnaires, analysis of facility requirements and supporting interior elements through design thinking stages. The design outcome consists of an interior concept for the exhibition spaces that reorganizes the narrative flow of the collections into a more structured sequence, applies one-way circulation paths, enhances spatial and informational accessibility, and develops display components without disregarding the character of the heritage building. The proposed design is expected to help realize a more inclusive museum and improve visitors’ understanding of the geological information presented.
