Abstract

Pier structures are generally subjected predominantly to horizontal loading and are commonly supported by steel pipe pile foundations, as exemplified by the platform-type Petrokimia Pier in Gresik, East Java. This 60,000 DWT pier accommodates complex operational loads generated by heavy equipment, including a Continuous Ship Unloader (CSU), an All-Terrain Crane, and a Telescopic Boom Crawler Crane. Such complex loading conditions require comprehensive structural analysis to ensure stable and efficient structural performance. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the structural performance of the pier using two different approaches: the **Virtual Fixity Point** method and the **Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI)** method. The structural models are divided into three scenarios: Structure I represents the existing pier analyzed using the Virtual Fixity Point method; Structure II represents the existing pier during the construction stage analyzed using the SSI method; and Structure III represents a modified pier model analyzed using the SSI method with adjusted pile dimensions. The research methodology employs structural modeling using SAP2000 software through two stages: linear static analysis and nonlinear static (*pushover*) analysis. In the linear static analysis, the structure is evaluated based on the **Demand Capacity Ratio (DCR)** and structural displacement, whereas the nonlinear static analysis is conducted to assess the structural performance level. For the nonlinear analysis, the steel pipe piles are modeled as *fiber hinge* elements to accurately represent material behavior. The analysis results indicate maximum DCR values of 0.648 for Structure I, 0.548 for Structure II, and 0.770 for Structure III. All values are below 1.0, indicating that the pile cross-sections are adequate to withstand the applied load combinations. The linear static displacement results show that Structure II exhibits the smallest deformation at 4.12 mm, compared with 16.12 mm for Structure I and 16.82 mm for Structure III. This finding demonstrates that the **Soil-Structure Interaction** method provides a more realistic representation of lateral soil resistance than the equivalent fixity depth assumption adopted in the **Virtual Fixity Point** method. Furthermore, the nonlinear static (*pushover*) analysis reveals that all three structural models achieve the same structural performance level, namely **Minimal Damage**, as indicated by the maximum strain in the pile *fiber hinge* elements remaining below the allowable strain limit.
