Abstract

Place-making theory emphasizes that the quality of public spaces is shaped by community participation, social activities, and cultural characteristics that create meaningful spatial experiences. Based on this theory, this design project aims to strengthen the local identity of Pasar Tradisional Sarlondho in Candirejo Village, Magetan Regency, through the application of place-making principles and Nusantara Architecture. Currently, the market operates as a traditional culinary destination every weekend morning, yet its temporary physical condition does not adequately reflect the local cultural identity. The design adopts a place-making approach using the Force-Based Framework as the conceptual basis. Through analyses of the site's history, user needs, and environmental context, architectural design strategies are formulated to create a dynamic, inclusive, and contextual cultural space. Through this process, the project integrates the market, pendopo, plaza, and amphitheater through interconnected building masses. A gateway serves as a transitional element, while the Joglo-roofed pendopo functions as the communal center and represents Nusantara Architecture. The market is vertically organized with trading areas on the ground floor and dining spaces above. The integration of local and modern materials with interconnected open spaces reinforces local identity while supporting economic, social, and cultural activities.
