Abstract
Tugas akhir ini berangkat dari ketidaksesuaian antara kebutuhan pengguna yang berubah cepat dan bangunan yang umumnya dirancang dengan program serta konfigurasi ruang tetap. Ketika arsitektur tidak mampu merespons perubahan sosial, budaya, dan ekonomi, ruang dapat menjadi kurang dimanfaatkan, ditinggalkan, atau dibongkar sehingga menghasilkan limbah spasial dan material. Perancangan ini bertujuan mengembangkan sistem arsitektur sirkular dan adaptif yang dapat mengakomodasi perubahan tanpa pembongkaran berulang. The Architecture of Waste digunakan sebagai landasan teori untuk mengantisipasi fase pasca-guna bangunan sejak awal proses desain, sedangkan form follows fashion digunakan sebagai metode perancangan. Fashion dipahami bukan sekadar gaya visual, tetapi sebagai sistem yang terus menyesuaikan bentuk, penggunaan, dan maknanya terhadap perubahan. Melalui concept-based framework, prinsip desain sirkular dipadukan dengan prinsip fashion yang kemudian diterjemahkan menjadi strategi arsitektural. Prinsip tersebut diterapkan pada Pasar Santa karena siklus aktivasi, penurunan, dan pembaruannya menunjukkan perubahan pola penggunaan serta ruang yang berulang kali kurang dimanfaatkan. Hasil perancangan mempertahankan grid kolom eksisting dan semi-basement sebagai elemen permanen, menambahkan core tetap, serta menerapkan platform yang dapat disusun ulang secara periodik untuk memperluas, memperkecil, menggabungkan, atau memisahkan ruang sesuai perubahan program. Pendekatan ini menghasilkan arsitektur yang adaptif dan tetap relevan terhadap kebutuhan masa depan.

This final project addresses the growing mismatch between rapidly changing user needs and buildings that are commonly designed around fixed programs and spatial configurations. When architecture cannot respond to shifts in social, cultural, and economic conditions, spaces may become obsolete, underused, abandoned, or demolished, producing both spatial and material waste. In response, the project aims to develop a circular and adaptable architectural system capable of accommodating change over time without repeated structural demolition. The study is grounded in The Architecture of Waste, which frames design as a process that should anticipate a building’s afterlife, while form follows fashion is used as the design method. In this method, fashion is understood not merely as visual style but as a system that continually adjusts its forms and meanings in response to changing conditions. Within the concept-based framework, circular design are combined with fashion principles, which are then translated into architectural strategies. These principles are tested at Pasar Santa because its recurring periods of activation, decline, and renewal demonstrate changing patterns of use and spatial underutilization. The design result is an evolving architectural system that retains the existing column grid and semi-basement as permanent elements, introduces fixed cores, and incorporates a platform system that can be periodically rearranged to expand, contract, merge, or separate spaces for different programs. Together, these strategies demonstrate that circularity and fashion-based thinking can generate an architectural system that is more adaptive and remains relevant to future needs.
