Abstract

The Department of Electrical Automation Engineering (DTEO), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, implements Project-Based Learning (PjBL) as an essential part of the learning process. However, PjBL management still relies on several separate platforms, including Google Drive, OneDrive, MyITS Classroom, and physical documents. This fragmented approach causes important information to be easily overlooked, project documents difficult to retrieve, progress monitoring to become decentralized, and assessment rubrics to be less accessible to students. In addition, student project outcomes do not yet have an official digital platform for public presentation. This study aims to design an information system model for PjBL management and an e-Showcase based on user needs. The study employs the Design Thinking approach through five stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with 12 students and 4 lecturers, and the development of User Journey Maps. The collected data were then analyzed to formulate system requirements, determine feature priorities, design user flows, and develop an interactive high-fidelity prototype. The resulting prototype includes features for PjBL document management, centralized announcements, guidelines and templates, assessment rubrics, submission status monitoring, e-Showcase submission and verification, and contact information. The prototype was evaluated by 19 respondents, consisting of 12 students, 4 lecturers, and 3 administrators, using Task Scenario Testing, the Think Aloud method, and the System Usability Scale (SUS). The Think Aloud evaluation indicated that the prototype was generally easy to understand, although several issues remained regarding menu labels, terminology consistency, button visibility, and the process of locating guidelines and templates. The SUS evaluation produced an average score of 79.61, corresponding to grade A−, within the 85th–89th percentile, and categorized as acceptable. These results indicate that the PjBL and e-Showcase Information System prototype was well accepted by users and demonstrated good usability. Nevertheless, further technical development and additional testing are still required before the system can be implemented in actual PjBL activities.
