Abstract

The paradigm shift in logistics toward automation has affected warehouse spaces. The concept of the Unstable Body in Are We Human? explains that the human body is unstable, constantly changing, and influenced by design. Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) changes warehouse operations and affects how spaces are organized for human and robot movement. Conscious redesign is therefore required to address instability within logistics workspaces. The scope is limited to a stationery warehouse, one robot specification, one type of exoskeleton body, and dry goods that do not require special handling. This design positions architecture as a prosthesis that regulates co-navigation and co-occupancy between humans and automation. Nostalgic futurism is applied through the redesign of an abandoned shophouse complex into a warehouse while retaining the existing structure. Motion study examines workflow, travel distance and time, movement patterns, spatial quality, circulation density, and conflicts between humans and robots. Human and automation zones are developed through six design iterations. The resulting design places the robot working area in an open-plan central space, while human spaces, utilities, control rooms, and maintenance areas are positioned along the sides of the building. Vertical transportation is adjusted to the existing structure, and rerouting space is provided for AMRs. Travel time decreases from 37.57 minutes to 22.82 minutes for comparison between iterations. The result shows that automation requires changes to spatial organization and building systems, not merely the addition of robots.
