Abstract

Kawasan Fatmawati sebagai lingkungan urban yang padat memiliki tantangan berupa polusi udara, kebisingan, dan kompleksitas aktivitas kota yang dapat mengganggu kenyamanan serta fungsi kognitif masyarakat. Proyek ini merancang sebuah Mediatheque sebagai ruang publik edukatif yang mampu mereduksi tekanan lingkungan tersebut melalui pengalaman ruang yang lebih teratur dan menenangkan. Pendekatan salutogenik dipilih untuk memastikan bangunan berkontribusi pada penguatan Sense of Coherence, yaitu kemampuan pengguna untuk memahami, mengendalikan, dan menemukan makna dalam ruang yang mereka tempati.
Metode perancangan menggabungkan konsep biomorphic pada pembentukan massa dan selubung, serta organic analogy pada organisasi ruang dan sirkulasi. Bangunan diperlakukan sebagai organisme yang terdiri dari segmen-segmen fungsional yang dihubungkan oleh spine sirkulasi, sehingga hubungan antarruang menjadi intuitif dan adaptif. Layering ruang luar–semi luar–dalam diterapkan untuk menciptakan transisi sensorik yang lembut, mengurangi beban paparan, sekaligus menyediakan pengalaman arsitektural yang ritmis dan koheren.
Hasil perancangan menghasilkan konfigurasi tiga modul utama: modul publik dan budaya, modul pembelajaran, serta modul produksi kreatif. Ketiga modul ini dirangkai dalam organisasi massa organik yang merespons kontur tapak dan membuka ruang luar berskala besar sebagai area restoratif. Dengan perpaduan strategi spasial, sirkulasi, dan atmosfer ruang, Mediatheque ini dirancang tidak hanya sebagai fasilitas informasi, tetapi sebagai coherence engine yang mampu mendukung kenyamanan mental, keterbacaan ruang, dan kualitas hidup masyarakat urban.

Fatmawati is a dense urban district shaped by constant traffic, air pollution, noise, and
overlapping patterns of activity. These conditions may reduce environmental comfort and place
additional strain on users’ attention and cognitive functioning. In response, this project proposes
a Mediatheque that serves not only as an educational public facility, but also as a place of relief
from the pressures of the surrounding city. The design applies a salutogenic approach to
strengthen users’ Sense of Coherence, particularly their ability to understand the spatial
environment, respond to its demands, and develop a meaningful connection with the place.
The design process combines biomorphic exploration with organic analogy.
Biomorphic principles inform the development of the building mass and envelope, while
organic analogy guides the arrangement of spaces and circulation. Rather than treating the
building as a collection of separate rooms, the Mediatheque is organized as a connected system
of functional segments linked by a main circulation spine. This structure produces a clearer
sequence of movement and allows relationships between activities to be understood more
intuitively. Transitions from outdoor to semi-outdoor and indoor areas are introduced gradually
to moderate sensory exposure and create a more balanced rhythm of spatial experience.
The final proposal is divided into three main modules: public and cultural activities,
learning, and creative production. These functions are arranged through an organic massing
composition that responds to the site while preserving substantial outdoor areas for rest,
interaction, and recovery. Spatial organization, circulation, environmental buffering, and
atmospheric qualities are therefore developed as an integrated system. Through this approach,
the Mediatheque is envisioned as more than a facility for accessing information. It functions as
a coherence engine that supports spatial legibility, psychological well-being, and a better
everyday experience for people living within a demanding urban environment.
