Abstract
Throughout history, pandemics have repeatedly reshaped housing design by demonstrating the importance of hygiene, flexibility, adaptability, and healthy living environments. Although various architectural responses, such as improvements in sanitation and ventilation systems, have evolved as a result of past pandemics, many contemporary housing typologies remain unable to adapt to occupants' changing needs during emergency situations. This final project proposes the design of flexible housing as a strategy to enhance residential resilience through its capacity to adapt to changing conditions in the context of future pandemics. The design applied Flexible Housing theory by Schneider and Till as the primary design theory, Functional Design as the design approach, and the Force-Based Framework as the design framework. Throughout the design process, design decisions were guided by design criteria derived from patterns of past pandemics, ways of virus transmission, the site context of Cengkareng, West Jakarta, and precedent studies. The design result consists of a four-story clustered vertical housing development incorporating transformable spaces, modular furniture, adaptive circulation system, hygiene strategies, and optimized natural ventilation. Rather than responding to a single specific pandemic, the project demonstrates that flexibility can serve as a long-term architectural strategy for enhancing residential resilience in the face of unpredictable changes, including future pandemics.

Sepanjang sejarah, pandemi telah berulang kali mengubah cara hunian dirancang dengan menunjukkan pentingnya higienitas, fleksibilitas, adaptabilitas, dan lingkungan hunian yang sehat. Meskipun berbagai respons arsitektural seperti peningkatan sistem sanitasi dan ventilasi telah berkembang sebagai hasil dari pandemi di masa lalu, banyak tipologi hunian saat ini yang masih belum mampu beradaptasi terhadap perubahan kebutuhan penghuni pada situasi darurat. Tugas akhir ini mengusulkan perancangan perumahan fleksibel sebagai strategi untuk meningkatkan ketahanan hunian melalui kemampuan beradaptasi terhadap perubahan kondisi pada konteks pandemi di masa depan. Perancangan ini menggunakan teori Flexible Housing oleh Schneider dan Till sebagai teori dasar perancangan, Functional Design sebagai pendekatan perancangan, dan Force-Based Framework sebagai kerangka perancangan. Dalam proses perancangan, keputusan desain dibuat berdasarkan kriteria perancangan yang diambil dari hasil sintesis teori mengenai pembacaan pola dari pandemi-pandemi di masa lalu, mekanisme penyebaran virus, konteks tapak di Cengkareng, Jakarta Barat, serta studi preseden. Hasil perancangan berupa hunian vertikal empat lantai berbasis klaster dengan penerapan ruang yang dapat ditransformasikan, furnitur modular, sistem sirkulasi yang adaptif, higienitas pada bangunan, serta ventilasi udara yang optimal. Tidak terbatas pada respon terhadap satu pandemi tertentu, perancangan ini menunjukkan bahwa fleksibilitas dapat menjadi strategi arsitektur jangka panjang untuk meningkatkan ketahanan hunian dalam menghadapi perubahan kondisi yang tidak dapat diprediksi, seperti pandemi di masa depan.
